Please join us for a discussion of Educated by Tara Westover.

Educated is an enthralling memoir that tracks Tara's journey from a secluded childhood in rural Idaho to obtaining a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. Born to survivalist parents, she grew up without formal education, largely isolated from the rest of the world. Her father's distrust of government institutions kept her from attending school or visiting doctors.

Tara's thirst for knowledge led her to educate herself, and despite numerous obstacles, she taught herself enough to be admitted to Brigham Young University. There, she discovered the power of learning and gradually distanced herself from her family's restrictive beliefs. The book delves into the challenges she faced in reconciling her upbringing with her new identity, highlighting the transformative power of education and the importance of self-determination.
